Some of these police officers out here are flat out reckless!
Recently, an unidentified female student at Helix Charter High School in La Mesa, CA was brutally slammed on school grounds by a cop, and it was all caught on video. In the clip, the officer was seen wrestling with the girl and throwing her to the ground twice before she was handcuffed.
The young girl was actually suspended, but showed up on campus and refused to leave when asked. According an interview with activist Aeiramique Blake, it was because the girl wanted to confront a teacher she felt had discriminated against her for searching her bag during in-school suspension. She was found to have pepper spray in her bag, which is considered a weapon. Thus the suspension.
But because she didn’t leave the campus on her own, police said that this officer had to restrain her. And clearly by whatever means necessary by the looks of this video! “As they were walking, the student became non-compliant on two separate occasions and made an attempt to free herself by pulling away from the officer,'' claimed La Mesa police chief Walt Vasquez in a statement. “To prevent the student from escaping, the officer forced the student to the ground.” Wow.
Watch the crazy video below…
After Aeiramique posted the video of the incident (obtained by her younger sister, who goes to the school) online, it quickly picked up traction. So much so that she called for the students to walkout and for the officer’s firing. A good number of students who were acquainted with the girl and others came together to stage a walkout. Here, you can see a few moments from the protest.
Police are investigating the incident, but can’t say what’s actually going to come fromit. Slamming this girl to the ground like she’s some kind of criminal, and not just a student on suspension, was really over the top! It was good to see that these students saw this as a huge problem, and came together to protest it. There are definitely strength in numbers!
