What in the world would make a grown man stuff his soon-to-be ex-wife in the trunk of her car and then drive across several states to hook up with his girlfriend? Both the Mansfield and Cedar Hill Police Departments are trying to figure that one out. Dequalan Dejuan Harris was arrested in connection with death of Tamara R. Harris after she went missing just days prior.
The couple was in the midst of a divorce according to authorities in Cedar Hill. A family member reported on July 14 that a few days had passed since anyone had seen or heard from Tamara and their daughter. Using Tamara's On-Star feature, police tracked down her car to 424 Woodridge Drive in Ohio—17 hours away from her home in Texas.
Mansfield Police conducted a search of her 2015 Chevy Traverse only to find her remains in the trunk. Further investigation led them to Harris' girlfriend's home nearby. He initially told them the last time he had seen Tamara was when he picked up their daughter from her home on Thursday. Girlfriend Demika Rucker confirmed that he had arrived on Friday and that he brought their daughter with him.
When police found Tamara, Harris did what any man who valued the life of the mother of his child would do—he ran. Mansfield Police has him in custody on a $1 million cash bond. Harris was charged with obstruction, resisting arrest, and abuse of a corpse which is a fifth-degree felony. His daughter was placed in the custody of Richland County Children Services.
No word yet on whether or not Harris actually killed his wife, but one would be hard-pressed to believe that he didn't at least know something about it. Don't you agree?
