Home with family should be the one place you always feel welcomed and safe. Although she was safe, 20-year-old Kiara Lawhon recently found herself not welcomed in her own home after her own mother disowned her for supporting Colin Kaepernick.

Here's the thing that makes matters a whole lot worse. This isn't the type of family you'd expect to see when it comes to the kneeling protest. See, Kiara is a biracial woman, who was disowned by her white mother.

You'd like to think that her mother would be okay with NFL players taking a knee in protest to police violence against Black people, especially since her daughter is mixed. Yeah, we'd like to think that too. But when was inspired by Sunday's protest she was inspired to post this on Facebook.

Soon after she posted her simple support of the players, her mother went off. Their conversation was posted on Twitter. Take a look at it.

With that, Kiara recently talked to Vibe about the whole ordeal. Noting that this was the first time that race had really been a hot topic for their family. She also said that the blowout has left her out on her own financially as her mother has cut her off their family phone plan and is refusing to fit the bill for her college tuition.

In the interview Kiara said she was "disappointed" by how things went down with her mother adding, "Growing up in a white family, they disagree with how I feel and refuse to understand my side of things." She added, “Colin Kaepernick is a beautiful soul that promotes positivity and change that needs to be seen.”

Although she has no contact with her white family and her own mother wants nothing to do with her, Kiara doesn't regret standing by Colin Kaepernick and the rest of those who chose to kneel. She does, however, need help with her college education. You can help Kiara out here.
